Video Control bar is customisable with many colours which I think might impress viewers. This happens even on the fastest of Internet connections. ~ Inexplicable Crashes and Error Screens that abruptly stop playback, which can happen even on video files that are not corrupted. ~ Video Framerate is locked to 024 Frames per Second on certain online platforms (Global Network TV, most notoriously), even if the uploaded video has a higher framerate. ~ Certain Playback and Menu Features (Resolution Switch, Closed Captioning, and others) are natively disabled on plentiful online platforms that use the player, with virtually no way to get them to display without modding the relevant website. > > I have limited usage with JW Player, due to only having really used it on platforms such as the Canada Exclusive Global Network TV website and Japan's NicoVideo (following the upgrade to their player circa 2015), alongside local news stations that also use it for their websites; in the time that I have used it, it is heavily considered by me to be a media player that works but must not be considered as a universal solution for online video playback, despite the fact that it has allowed for me and millions of others to be able to access television and online programming that we would otherwise be unable to view elsewhere on a platform such as YouTube, Dailymotion, or Vimeo. While JW Player is able to allow you to view the videos that you set out to watch, its coding imperfections and playback handicaps make it harder to justify over players from other groups, which is why I can only give this a Four Star ranking in my review; if you need a player for your website and can't afford nor make something that is more effective, then you may find residence with this, using it will give you a better insight on how all media players are not made equal while also allowing for the footage you put on your platform to be viewed with limited issues, you could use this as a holdover until you find a resource more efficient and still get the most out of your investment until you make the switch proper. ----- ### "Highly overcharging & lack of customization" — 1.0/5 > **Anton** | *9 de octubre de 2025* | Aprendizaje en línea | Valoración de la recomendación: 0.0/10 > > **Puntos a favor**: It's stable, and encryption is fine. We've used it for 8 years and didn't have any significant technical issues with it luckily. > > **Puntos en contra**: We have been using JW player for about 8 years, thinking it was fine. Partially because of their statistics that they showed, we assumed the migration wouldn't be a significant change. How could we be wrong. First of all, there is a significant lack of integration possibilities and modern tools. For example, they offer transcribing - at 1$ a minute. Alternatives do this for around 0,10$ at most. Next to this, the customization in settings, player and solution is limited. It's not developer friendly at all. Secondly - their pricing is insane. First of all, they work with packages. This means you always pay, also if you don't use the allotment. More importantly tho, their pricing is inflated. For current customers - be aware, they charge you for original video file sizes, while they are not being stored. JW charged us for 22TB of storage, but after migration it turns out (including all variants that come with it), we are sub 7TB stored. Keep this in mind if you make calculations - their storage allotment is inflated insanely. We have migrated eventually - and can only recommend to do this. It only took us 1 week to migrate but it's a 78% reduction in expenses. We literally save 14k per year now. > > The first few years were fine, there was a lack of competition in this space for private video storage. For us, this was the only possible way that was secure at that time. However, compared to 8 years ago, both the product ánd pricing have not changed.
